This week’s Their Story feature is the story of a beautiful couple who are both 72 years old and whom I recently met at our church in Houston. Ever since I met them, I have been so encouraged by their relationship. It was wonderful to read about their story in the Houston Chronicle and below is an excerpt from the article:

The horizon of their wide and busy world has gradually drawn inward since 2005, when Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and Bill began focusing a growing share of his time and energy on her. He took a training course, reads books and meets with a support group to help him provide what she needs and anticipate what is to come, but he doesn’t speak of a job or duty or responsibility — only “the privilege of caring for her.”

He sees the occasional signs, and so does she, that this intruder is going about its work, stealing precious bits of her consciousness. But the Cunninghams, both 72, don’t dwell on it, choosing instead to make the most of the time they have remaining.

“My love for Anne has deepened because, now, she needs me more than ever,” Bill says. “In one respect, it’s been a growth for me.”

Read their story in its entirety in the Houston Chronicle here.

I’ve been wanting to do a Going Green section here featuring small and simple steps anyone can take to a greener and more environmentally conscious lifestyle and decided to start this category with a feature on the Flip and Tumble Bags!

Over the last couple of years, I’ve started a small collection of reusable grocery shopping bags but quickly realized that the majority of these bags weren’t with me when I needed to use them. The common denominator between them was that they didn’t fit in my purse and between the diaper bag, the shopping cart, the baby carrier, and the baby, if it didn’t fold nicely into my purse or diaper bag, it wasn’t coming out with me. So when I heard about these adorable, colorful flip and tumble bags, which fold up into a compact ball, I knew they were the solution I was looking for in a grocery and shopping bag.

I’ve been using the bags for a couple of months now and they have been perfect. It’s super easy to whip them out at the cash register and to roll them back up again when I’m done. And they’re also sturdy enough to transport all the milk my toddler drinks up now.

You can check out their intro video on their site and pick up a few bags for yourself from their online store, or from your local Container Store.

Engaged Marriage has an interesting post on what an extraordinary marriage looks like. Here were some of the reader responses:

I would say being on mission together for something much bigger than yourselves describes an extraordinary marriage. More than likely, almost every couple would say they want that, but most don’t know how or just don’t want to do the work to be extraordinary and end up settling for less.

and

An extraordinary marriage is when both partners seek to serve each other. It’s one where communication is free flowing and each partner is safe to share issues that concern them. It’s a marriage where both partners are quick to forgive. It’s a place where commitment is unswerving. It’s realizing that you always need to be learning more about each other over time.

Engaged Marriage also had the following to say about what an extraordinary marriage looks like…

* It serves as a vivid example of God’s love for His people.
* It takes two people and joins them together with the capacity to do more good than the sum of the individuals.
